We need volunteers for the Saltscapes expo! Click here for details!
Established in 1990, Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada (GPAC) is a non-profit organization that provides the adoption of greyhounds throughout the Maritimes as well as Newfoundland. Our success in placing retired racing greyhounds into a forever home is thankful to our director/founder, Jeanette Reynolds who is a qualified RN in psychology, having a Masters student of animal science degree, 30 + years of experience with dogs and is fully trained to work with special needs dogs including dogs with physical injuries. Also, not to be forgotten is our dedicated regular volunteer base who assist Jeanette and David in the daily care, exercise and playtime of the Greyhounds in the kennel, they too are monitoring their well being, taking note of each Greyhounds needs and comfort requirements, several of our regular volunteers have taken the Tellington Touch Seminar. We are also fortunate that some of our kennel volunteers come with backgrounds that are a great resource to us, like Veterinarians and Veterinary assistants who are adept at monitoring any potential health concern with a Greyhound if one should appear, Dentists and Dental Hygienists who are monitoring the Greyhounds teeth and gums, seasoned professional dog trainers assisting Jeanette with obedience training and evaluations, professional dog groomers as well as volunteers in many human medical fields. All of our great volunteers share their precious time and volunteer at our kennel location to ensure we maintain healthy and exceptionally happy greyhounds. With their dedication and hard work they have made GPAC the #1 Adoption Program in the Maritimes and Newfoundland and have placed well over 2600 greyhounds. GPAC strives for the well being of our arriving greyhounds by ensuring that our volunteers have full orientation and training sessions in the handling and caring for greyhounds while they are in transition to a placement in either foster care or to their new permanent homes. Once a greyhound is placed, we provide full support training and behaviour consultation. We are more than proud to say that we have a 95% success rate of placing dogs into new homes with small children and other pets the very first time. Our retired racers are available for adoption throughout most of the year. The greys are spayed/neutered with their first shots and dental scaling, full tick panel test, and the price includes an adoption kit with a handbook, collar, muzzle, and one bag of food. SUITABLE PICTURES For your next pet, consider a greyhound - they make a perfect companion.
